Jerry Jaques sold the airplane around give or take 1998 to EarthData aviation (later part of Fugro) where is was used for low level mapping operations. It was sold to a mapping company in south Dakota and subsequently ground looped and damaged wing/s resulted. It was sold to I believe current owner who fixed it. Photo with yellow paint job is taken in Maryland. Pilot standing in front of plane is Greg Goins. Hanger is grass strip owned by another pilot first name Bob, can't remember last name. Both flew for Earthdata Aviation. I also flew the airplane around that time but both of them had much more taildragger time at that time than I did.

On another note. This plane had a camera port when Earthdata purchased it from Jerry Jaques. It was then based out of Hagerstown Maryland. Earthadata had the camera port reconfigured and enlarged to fit a Leica Aerial mapping camera. A few mapping company's (Earthadata was one) were bought and came together as FUGRO and the plane was transferred/sold from Earthdata to the SD company.
While with Earthadata the plane was used on mapping missions mostly on the East coast but "Bob" did fly the plane to California for mapping. Long Flight!

The top photo is mine taken at Oceanside in March 1981 while popping in on Steven Murray when he owned it. I flew alot in that airplane and I have a companion photo for that shoot. I was going to fly it that day but inclement weather and no instrument rating precluded any further intent to fly, so off to Fallbrook we went. I logged about 230 hours in 62D and it was a great family machine for a 4-seater. Murray used it for parts hauling and later banner towing. At John Wayne Airport controllers always had fits when he flew in and landed in the last quarter on the North/South runway. So they often cleared him into the chopper pad.

Stephen,
OK
this is your chance
to either loan me the photos to get a better scan or do it yourself and also post the companion photo.
I'm still waiting for the Photos you were going to send months ago. If you are not going to send them don't say or insinuate you will, Please.
Do you need/want me to mark that top photo as being from your collection. Its not much trouble to do.
Doug

Sold 8/15, rereg as N395H (for model H-395) Gordon Cragg Gloster, TX stationed 1AX7 re-install Helio bench for middle seats now 4 seat configuration with enlarged heavy duty cargo area
Edit and added a current photo above waiting for picture with registry
N395H
which is
pending
authorization to apply
Notice
grab bar with utility door opened. This was something I intended to eventually do as a removable bar, I also intended to remove the shirttail catcher, and I felt it would improve the crashworthiness of the cage.
Any opinions on crashworthiness improvement?

Hello All;
The bar is actually a very useful addition to a Helio with the LH utility door. We all know that the roll cage "flexs" somewhat on landing. This bar, absorbs some of that flexing. The bar is removable so it does not affect the cargo loading. A very interesting modification.
