Does anyone have a set of those optional mufflers shown in the last photo of this article.
I saw a set at Laramont Aviation in '94, always thought that would be the way to go If you needed mufflers on your airplane if you were having a noise abatement problem or were flying around over sports events or border patrol, instead of hanging automotive style mufflers on the outside of the fuselage.

Helio c/n 001, "ol' no, 1" has changed hands again it has returned to the states as
N100HC
the new owner is Charles Ross of Cross Plains, TX. My understanding is that he is getting some Helio type training from Kevin Dunn, I'm impressed with Mr. Ross probably already a pretty good pilot.
EDIT to the History file:
Simon Drouin QC sold 12/18,
Charles Ross
TX, dereg export rereg as
N
100HC
(for c/n
001

Found an early picture of 'ole no. 1' dated as late 50's at E-bay, the paint scheme is an upgrade from the factory H-391 scheme to a optional factory deluxe three color H-395 paint scheme.
The Helio was sold to its second owner in '58, so possibly at that time it was upgraded by the new owner to the new scheme.
I think this is the paint scheme I would use, if I was buying the first production Helio, including the extra larger registry mark on the underside of the left wing, might have to adjust the colors though.
Anyone by chance have a
color
photo of the original H-391 paint scheme? Was it white black and red also?
I opened the photo #4 in the queue at the top of the page.

Haven’t commented for a while but want to correct any impressions about the mufflers we use on occasion for aerial coverage of golf. We use the muffler setup that Steve Murray constructed for Pima County. There was no approval necessary for a public use aircraft but we received a one time STC for 5387G and used that paperwork for 18JC. The mufflers are not automotive, but aircraft mufflers design for the Polish built Wilga. You can find pictures online of Wilga aircraft equipped with these mufflers. We continue to fly about 500 hours per year per aircraft. Over the past 4 years we have added two Cessna 206H. Our four aircraft now provide aerial coverage for about 150 events per year. Thanks to all for keeping this site going.

I found a couple pictures at "Instagram #Helio courier" the caption was Helio taking off from Jaars while still a gravel strip that would have been sometime between '62 wnen it was built and '72 when it was paved I enlarged the photos to try to see the registry marks but there just aren't enough pixels o tell what it is so i looked through some photos and decided that it probably c/n 001 because it is a H-391B and it is the only early Jaars Helio
with only 5 characters in the registry mark 'N242B' and by the time it arrived at Jaars in '71 the original red color scheme had faded to orange, which matches the color scheme on this helio.
I'm not sure if this is the first usage of the bird on the side of the fuselage but it is the only Jaars Helio I've seen with the bird added to the original paint scheme.
by the way what is this bird called is a logo or something.
I will open the photos as #6 & 7 in the photo queue at top of page.

I happen across the fact that Charlie Ross entered a Stol competition and won 4th place in the Heavy touring class,
I'm surprised he didn't do better. Must not have done enough practising

Charlie would you tell us what you think you did wrong to only place, and what your going to do different next year.
Did you by chance take a couple photos?
