The low price is usually:

Modified Aircraft Accessories, Brooks, Kentucky, Contact Jim

Very high quality job:

Kenmore Air, Woodinville, Washington, Contact Greg Gay

These are expensive to overhaul any way you look at it.  The clutch plates and gears are very delicate and require special procedures that often ruin an home done rebuild.

Good Luck

Some of you already know all this but as a recent H295 owner, I have found the following which may be of interest:

1. Kenmore's starter guy is medically out for a while. Recommended #2 below.

2. Talked to Tony Ortega at AERO ENGINES (aero-engines@msn.com) (323)663-3961.

He said this is a common starter and is popular because it is lightweight. It is a common starter used on R985 (Beavers, etc) R1340 (T-6, etc.) It is a Bendix starter and is called the E80. They sell them newly overhauled all new parts and warranty for $2100. An exchange is $1100. Or you can just send it in and they will overhaul. The labor to overhaul is $340. So add parts (including the six new bearings changed ea time regardless). He stated all parts are available.
