Greetings,
Back in the late 1980s my father, Larry McGregor (now deceased) purchased this Helio from Larry Montgomery (Larmont) in Spartanburg, SC.  It has been hangared since 1998 and needs some TLC.  AFAIK, the engine and prop are about 80 hours until OH is due.

I'm working on earning my pilot license and would love to get her back in the air.  I'm trying to learn as much about this plane as possible in the meantime.  I appreciate any history or information you have about this plane.

I have many more pictures from back when my dad was actively flying.

Many Thanks,
Evan McGregor

I just got of the phone with Ken at NW Propeller and he quoted 5100 for a basic overhaul. I have several hubs I'm taking down to have him inspect and possibly overhaul.
Best of luck to you, give DJ a call so he can hammer the proper use of those interceptors home, even though its a nose dragger!!!

Evan, Good luck learning to fly your Helio. since it has been converted to trigear it will be fairly easy to learn to fly, just really try to find someone that has a Helio or time in one and get them to teach you the differences between the Helio and 172 you probably learned to fly in. The main things are not getting behind the power curve in slow flight or a very steep climb and using the ailerons correctly.

You can send me an email if you like, using the Email symbol, by clicking on the "little picture of a letter'' below my name on the left side of this post and then I will give you my phone number if interested or you can give me yours and I will call you.

The main things are not getting behind the power curve in slow flight or steep a very climb and using the ailerons correctly.

With that simple phrase, someone can go very far and safely in a Helio

Thanks to everyone for your encouragement!  I still have a long way to go before I solo but if it helps ease your minds at all, I will be renting a c152 for my hands-on training. The Helio is more of a longer term project, but I am dead set on giving her the TLC she so desperately deserves.

I'm thankful that this forum exists and soon I'll be posting more photos of N5538G here http://flyhelio.com/smf/index.php?topic=998.0
