Steve,

If we park in the Vintage area can we still throw a tent under the wing or is it just parking?

Steve

Summer is almost over and I would like to start thinking about what we have planned at Oshkosh. Are we flying in together? Floatplanes allowed with the others? Can we camp under wing?

Thanks

Andrew

Parking area for Helio is as follows, bring the camping gear and by all means have a fabulous time. I will do my very best to accommodate everyone, I will have some other engagements happening and I just contacted Vintage Aircraft to have a write-up for the Gathering. Be sure to get your Vintage windscreen placards upon arrival. Tim Fox is well aware of the happening, if you need more info I'll make that happen. You can also pre-order them from VAA at  EAA.org and go to Vintage section for more of this. Float planes will be addressed and can park there as well. Contact Hannah @ 920-426-6110 if you need further assistance.

All for now at this writing

Update for Airventure 2017, Helio will be assembled in the Vintage area, those of you with straight floats will have to base at the Vette Seaplane Base because of lengthy concrete RWY/Taxi-way considerations. You can get your windshield VAC sign now by contacting Vintage Airplane at EAA (920) 426-6110 or e-mail them which ever is more expeditious.

We have a solid 10 airplanes coming and camping there is fully approved.

I'm also on facebook for those of you who do that here:

Hi Stephen-  for those of us coming to the Vintage Aircraft Parking with our Helios, do we do all the normal prepay and registering on line for fees and camping? I understand we will want to bring a "Vintage Parking" sign to show on landing for taxi instructions.  See you soon/  Bob Wallace (H22/N400HE)

I spoke yesterday with Tim Fox at Vintage, the area is confirmed and special placards for Helio's arriving the weekend prior to convention will be provided to the following airplanes. This is my confirmed list as of today 6/15/17 I'll be sending an e-mail to Tim to confirm this event. One of the type club participants cancelled with more area to park our Helio airplanes. The folks at EAA are very excited about having this here and it appears that we have a significant amount of attendees.

C-G001, C-G011, N6463V, N40345, N400HE, N395H, N4121D, N550TG, N700AA, N12TB, N44953 or N68884, N461FM that will be at JAARS area.

There will be a special presentation on Monday July 24, 2017 with Ole No.1 with Mike Mower of JAARS and I believe Ray Johnson is coordinating this event, and Ole No.1 will be displayed in front of the Vintage Red Barn.

For now you can contact me or Tim at the following locations

shortfield2@gmail.com is my e-mail. For Tim Fox it is tim@flyingshepherds.com

All for now

Update: For those of you flying in I will be there the weekend prior to Airventure, the windshield placards are ready July 1st, 2017. I have a VA appointment Monday the 24th of July, and will be going to therapy for about 6 weeks due to some spinal injuries incurred during combat operations in Vietnam during the Battle for Ripcord. Yes, we took heavy ambushes by the NVA and were rocketed several times, that being said, I will not be at EAA everyday in the AM, the rest of the day will be open.

We have a very good display of airplanes attending, and a special area will be set-up for Helio highway in the Vintage area.

All I have for now

Happy Fathers Day to all of you, and my daughter was featured in EAA Spirit of Aviation for International Young Eagles Day June 10, 2017

She has the pink shirt on.

Hi Guys and thanks, Stephen, for getting this all together.  Thought I would mention a couple of things:   !.  With "Ol #1" there maybe we should mention that N400HE  (which is H22) is the LAST Helio as far as I know.  It was in the production line at Helio when production stopped.  Last Helio off the line was H18, I believe, and beyond that incomplete were H19, 20, 21, 22 and 23.  Doug, I think, recounts some of what happened to the other unfinished Helios.  They apparently were parted out t repair other helios out there but H22 was finished, later to be owned by David Maytag.  It was used as a test be for a number of engine options which David Maytag was experimenting with to determine if other engines would work well with the Helio.    H22 (N400HE) was acquired by Pima County Sheriffs' Department in 2007 and an Allison 250 B17C turbine engine install following the successful operation of Helio HT1709 with the same engine installation.  and 2.  H22 (N400HE) will be at Oshkosh.  She is presently on Amphi floats.  Hope to see you there/  Cheers/ Bob Wallace
