Helio H-295 tailwheel tire and tube
« on: April 06, 2011, 11:15:57 AM »
Having problems finding a tailwheel tire and tube for the H-295.  I have contacted Russ aircraft for his STC but I need a 8 Ply tire correct?  The thickest in Russ's wheel adapter would be the 10.5/4 6 ply.  Parts catologe says 8 ply.  Please help.

Was there ever an aftermarket fatter tailwheel for soft terrain as has been done on some other aircraft?

I saw a post by Louis about tailwheels over at the supercub site he mentioned using a Beaver tailwheel and somewhere I saw an STC for a larger tailwheel mentioned. The tailwheel on the Helio always seemed just barely adequate. I suspect part of my back problems were caused by the heavy tail and  barely adequate tailwheel of the Helio on soft terrain.

I talked to a Jim Palmer 530-279-1210 in California. He had a rainy day project helio with a one of a kind tailwheel something Like a Maule I think. c/n 1231 or 1250 I can't read my notes. That Project went to Canada. It looks like 510 Lesage, Chambly, Quebec, J3L-5-5S5 was where it went. He said he was out of the Helio Business.

Thank you for the help.  I talked to mike andrew at JAARS and he hard one tire left and paid 300 dollars for it but were else do you find them.  I also ordered 2 tubes to keep with the plane just in case.  Thanks again.

Maybe you can try Stephen C. Murray Aero Pacific, Oceanside, CA. He has the shimmy dampener and shimmy assembly from a 295 1200 series. Don't know if he will part with it. I'll give him a ringy dingy tomorrow and post info here..
