Helio Gathering 2011
« on: March 24, 2011, 07:10:05 AM »
We are attempting to do this again, with perhaps better circumstances.

Updates will be posted daily. We need airplanes for this, so if you can, please make a point to attend. Future of Helio will be discussed, parts, aircraft in service, and great time and at a first class event

More today, so stay tuned..

I am curious what kind of course you had in mind? It never hurts to find out more especially since I had very little instruction.

I have a qualified Helio pilot/instructor to give a flight clinic in STOL ops, slow flight, landing and T.O techniques and what ever else you want. He will also have the gross weight kits available.

Gerry, we can put you in another Helio since you will not have yours. Right now I'll have one H-391B here.

Cheers

Sounds good Stephen.
I will likely have a little more time on mine by the time the Fly In comes around. Hopefully not enough to build any unbreakable habits but enough to put a few questions in my brain to go over when I get down there.
I don't have any C-185 or C-180 time so speed is not one of my hang ups. Also a long time ago I used to rent an Ercoupe which used to descend like a rock and in a cross wind touch down crabbed. Other than that it has been PA-12 and a little J-3 Floats and Skis.

I will try to schedule it in between work trips. My airplane will be far north, so if one is available for some dual I am very interested.
Any idea the closest airline service?

Green Bay is the closest with major airline connections. Appleton,WI serves only partial flights and is not that convenient.

Stephen.
I just received some bad news.
My job in Mexico has taken on a bad little turn. We have been working between the Cartels and the Military in Mexico for some time now. Our philosophy has been to live and let live. Last week the Cartels decided to give us a threat and shot up one of the trucks (Mine) and three of our guys close to the job site. They also sent news that we can expect more of the same unless we do what they want. So I won't be going to Mexico again any time soon.
I planned to take my time off so I could attend the fly in, but now I am going to be forced to work farther out. Because of this I will be forced to do 2 month stretches instead of the calendar juggling I did earlier to fit the get together in. I likely won't be able to make it this year.
I will still try but at the moment I don't know where I am going to be sent for work, and so I can't say if I will make it.

Okay Gentlemen,

30 days until showtime, we have Fox 11 WLUK news that are going to cover the event at this point.

I am going up to 68C tomorrow to visit Bill Kinsman for the Friday Lunch. We have had enough rain now. Weather will be good..There is also a Super Cub Fly-In there the week of EAA AirVenture if you wish to hang around for the week.

More updates tomorrow

It is highly unlikely Steve Shaffer will not be coming up with the U-10A. Two reasons for this: One, he has not got his medical back after surgery. Two, the cost involved and time off work won't allow it. Three, the paperwork for 3600 pound gross weight has not been issued yet and it is just a matter of sending it in because the FAA approved the airplane for this weight.

I will have all info regarding gross weight kits for airplanes that can have the #3800 pound mod, so if you want one now is the time to get this in order.

More to come:

Central County Airport does not have AvGas, but Clintonville does and it is just a short hop Northeast
