Found a recent picture of c/n 1434, so decided to add it to the end of picture lineup above.

I heard a while back that Jaars was going to reduce their air show fleet to one Helio, then I heard
they were going to reduce the fleet to two c/n 1434 and c/n 558.

Anyone willing to tell what the story is?

Doug,

From what I have been told the JAARS Helio fleet reduction is due to several factors. (1) They no longer fly them outside the US so they do not need to train/maintain proficiency for numerous pilots. (2) They are still a very viable tool for initial pilot evaluation and a heavy tailwheel trainer (in preparation for flying a PC6). (3) They maintain a schedule of events (which include Helio demo flights, rides, etc) around the country on an annual basis for the purpose of promoting JAARS and what they do overseas that includes Oshkosh and Sun n Fun. However, they only need two airplanes to meet the need. Clear as mud??

I know that 558 was chosen as one of the two because while is was their R&D airplane for a lot of years, it is a low time airframe. Around 3000 hours if I remember correctly.

That is the story as I know it.
